(Best gambling sites) Is the SEC too good for its own good?
No commentsBy SimonSkinner
What is the best conference in college football? Thats a question that doesnt really need to be answered in 2008, and truthfully, for the last several years. The SEC has been a dominant force in the college football game. Fans of the SEC have mixed feelings about that. On the upside:
SEC fans can brag about how good SEC football is, the tradition of SEC football and so on.
Theres always a chance that youll see an SEC team succeeding against another conference in a major BCS bowl game.
Surviving an SEC football season is like a badge of honor and respect with so many good teams.
But for every up there is always a down, and those include:
With so many great SEC football teams, they could all knock each other out of BCS Championship contention.
SEC teams dont get any off weeks once conference play starts, where they have chances to rest injuries or run up the scores.
Its just downright hard to make an online college football bet with an SEC conference game! All these teams can beat each other in any given week.
That leaves us with a revised question. The question is no longer who the best conference in college football is, the real question is, is the SEC too good for its own good? Its hard to say, but I think most people would lean towards yes on that one. And thats for one of the reasons listed above, all of these teams may end beating each other, leaving nobody left to go to the BCS Championship game.
The system is clearly flawed. A team from a weak conference, such as the Big East or Big Ten could potentially go undefeated against lowered opposition and get more credit than an SEC team that loses once and comes out on top of the heap of the ultracompetitive conference they play in. It is almost impossible at this point to come out of the SEC unscathed.
The season may finish with four SEC teams in the top ten rankings of college football. If all four of those teams beat one other of those four teams, than theyll be staring face up at an undefeated team from a weak conference who vaulted over them in the BCS standings. Thats not very fair.
If youre a fan of the SEC, you may have some disappointment coming your way because of that. And if youre a fan of betting on SEC games, then bet smart. Alabama is a team on the rise this year, and they have serious potential to be a powerhouse. Georgia is not as good as predicted but is still a top notch team, and Florida and LSU seem to always be in the title hunt come November.
But what we have seen is that in the SEC, rankings and tradition dont matter. Weve seen Ole Miss score a huge upset and weve seen Alabama crush the preseason number one… on the road! I guess Nick Saban is pretty happy to be back in the college ranks, and Im the folks at Alabama are pretty eager to pay him as much money as they want.
SEC, you might be too good for your own good, but you cant get any better to watch!
